The epidemiology of diabetes in children and adolescents is changing, which carries profound implications for how clinicians screen, assess, and manage the world-wide epidemic of this chronic disease. Over the past few years, as the incidence of childhood obesity has dramatically increased, so has the emergence of Type 2 diabetes in young people, as well as the incidence of diabetic diagnoses anomalies that do not conform to the standard type1 or type 2 classification models. This will be the first book of its kind to address this critical paradigm shift, and offer insights and recommendations as to how clinicians can better care for this growing patient population.

heart disease the leading cause of death and a major contributor to disability in the United States. Deaths from heart disease are
largely preventable, and with targeted public health efforts, we can alleviate much of the heavy burden of this disease. To meet this
challenge, CDC works to closely monitor geographic and temporal trends in heart disease among racial and ethnic groups,
strengthen the delivery of primary and secondary preventive health services to all such groups, and implement policy changes that
support heart-healthy environments for all residents of the United States.
Among men, mortality rates for heart disease are higher than the rates for all forms of cancer combined. Approximately 356,598 men
die of heart disease each year, and approximately 5.8 million men alive today have suffered a heart attack or angina pectoris (chest
pain). In addition, the burden of heart disease among men is not equally distributed among racial and ethnic groups within the
United States. Men and Heart Disease: An Atlas of Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Mortality comprehensively describes the unequal
distribution of heart disease among these groups.
In addition, Men and Heart Disease: An Atlas of Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Mortality provides health professionals and
concerned citizens at the local, state, and national levels with information essential to identifying populations of men at greatest
risk of heart disease and in greatest need of prevention efforts. Men and Heart Disease provides, for the first time, county-level
maps of heart disease for men of the five largest racial and ethnic groups in the United States American Indians and Alaska Natives,
Asians and Pacific Islanders, Blacks, Hispanics, and Whites. In addition, Men and Heart Disease includes maps that depict
geographic patterns of local economic and medical care resources and population distributions for each racial and ethnic group.
These maps provide crucial information for tailoring prevention efforts to the communities in need.
This publication is the second in a series of atlases related to cardiovascular disease that are being developed through a collaboration
between CDC and West Virginia University. The first atlas was Women and Heart Disease: An Atlas of Racial and Ethnic Disparities
in Mortality.
Now, I am pleased to share Men and Heart Disease: An Atlas of Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Mortality with you. I encourage
you to use these data to improve the delivery of preventive health services and to create heart-healthy environments for all men.

Body Simulation for Anesthesia Software

Body Simulation for Anesthesia Software

Body Simulation for Anesthesia is software for teaching and training in the field of anesthesia. A detailed and graphically pleasing user interface has been customized to represent the operating room environment. Users may explore a myriad of scientific and clinical aspects as they run through life-like cases. The detailed model allows administration of IV lines, fluids, injected and inhaled drugs and agents, anesthesia machine and ventilator settings, and many more clinical maneuvers. Extensive plotting a graphing features make exploration of internal processes fun, exciting, and informative.
Body Simulation for Anesthesia is an interactive PC-based multi-media software program. It is a simulation of the anesthesia work environment that is centered around a sophisticated mathematical model of human physiology and pharmacology. The program provides a multimedia presentation of the patient and the anesthesia workstation such that users may interact with the software to do actions that would be done during an anesthetic case. The goal of the software is to provide users with the opportunity to run through the all intellectual motions, to the extent limited by a multimedia simulation, that would normally be routine, or not so routine, during the anesthetic delivery process.

Publisher: Jessica Kingsley Publishers
Number Of Pages: 160

ISBN-10 / ASIN: 1843103370
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9781843103370
Binding: Paperback

The term person-centred care has been widely used, misused and ill defined. It is used frequently in the aims and objectives for dementia care services and provision, although in practice what lies behind the rhetoric can be questionable. This book gives fresh definition to the important ideas behind and the implementation of person centred care for people with dementia. Dawn Brooker explains the four key elements of person centred care that comprise the VIPS model: Valuing people with dementia and those who care for them (V); treating people as Individuals (I); looking at the world from the Perspective of the person with dementia (P); and a positive Social environment in which the person living with dementia can experience relative well being (S). With an emphasis on practical application, Person Centred Dementia Care provides care organisations with clear, accessible guidelines on how to put the VIPS model into operation for effective care that is ‘fit for VIPs’. Part 2 of the book comprises the VIPS organisational reflection tool, which care providers can use to assess how well they think they are doing at providing person-centred care. This will be essential reading for practitioners working with and policy makers responsible for people with dementia at all levels.
